Sarah Astin is pride of Belgrave in Commonwealth 5000m final
Sarah Astin did Belgrave proud on the international stage with one of her best performances to date.
In a stellar Commonwealth Games 5000m final, her 15:39.54 clocking was just 0.49s shy of her PB recorded at Watford this June.
The title was won by Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet with Scotland’s Eilish McColgan, who led for the entirety of the race until the final lap, taking silver.
Representing the Isle of Man, Sarah ran the race smartly, going through 1km in 18th, moving up to 17th by 4km and finishing in 16th overall out of 22 starters.
Sarah was a standout performer for the Belles last winter, with a Surrey League win, fourth at the Southern XC, 13th at National XC and fastest long leg overall at the Southern 6-stage road relays.
After a breakthrough summer on the track, we can’t wait to see what she can do on the road and country in 2022/23.
