Georgia Bell won the silver medal in a thrilling 1500m final at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome.

In a thrilling final 100m Georgia was pipped to the gold by Ireland’s Ciara Mageean, but managed to hold off France’s Agathe Guillemot for silver after British teammate Jemma Reekie faded on the home straight.

The medal is Belgrave’’s first podium finish at a major championships since Dwaine Chambers won bronze at the World Indoors in Instanbul in 2012.

“It feels like I should be at work or having Sunday scaries for work tomorrow, but instead I’m at the European champs,” 30-year-old Georgia told Athletics Weekly, only two years after returning to the sport at 2022’s Comeback 5000 hosted by Belgrave. “I’m happy, as you might be able to tell.”

Georgia came fourth at World Indoors in March and was determined not to miss out on a medal again.

Her focus now turns to qualifying for the Paris Olympics this summer and will be training hard at Battersea until then.
