Belgrave track great Alan Sexton dies at 87
Alan Sexton, Belgrave track star of the 1950s, has died aged 87.In 1948 he won the AAA's Junior 220-yard title in 22.9 sec and won again the following year in 22.1 sec.Moving up to seniors, he finished 1952 ranked 2nd in the country over 440yds with a time of 48.2 sec. He ranked 5th in the UK over 220yds in 1954 and ran 9.9 sec for the 100yds in 1953.He was a key member of the Belgrave 4x100 yards relay team which won the AAA's title in 1954 in a time of 42.6 sec.In 1953, Alan was 440 yards runner-up in the Counties Athletic Union Championships, was Universities Athletic Union Champion, and won for Oxford and Cambridge against Yale and West Point.He graduated from Cambridge University and was also a member of Achilles AC.By Bill Laws.
