It's World Cup Bronze for Bobsleigher Greg Cackett
One of Belgrave's leading sprinters for many years, Greg Cackett is now a fully fledged member of Team GB's bobsleigh team. Taking the rear-gunner position in the sleigh, the team missed out on gold by just a tenth of a second, confirming their exciting promise for greater challenges to come.Greg reports:
WE DID IT! Hello Belgravians! Amazing result for us in Park City on Saturday night. We had the disappointment of the weather affecting our run the day before but bounced back to claim bronze. My first medal and the first podium result for a GB crew in 4 years. The most exciting part of this result however, was the fact that Lamin's crew also finished in the top 6 (top 6 being podium in bobsleigh). This was historic for us as Great Britain has never had both 4 man crews in the top 6 at a World Cup event before and shows the strength in depth of this squad. The difficulties in British Bobsleigh have been widely publicised this summer but we have shown the obvious medal potential we have always had. We've got a fantastic management in place and morale is at an all time high.
Next stop on the World Cup tour is Whistler, Canada this weekend, 2 man and women Friday, 4 man Saturday. This will definitely be one to watch as it's the fastest track in the world. We were here a few weeks ago for training and have already clocked 95mph, it's honestly the most unbelievable experience. Tune into YouTube or BBC red button this Friday and Saturday and get behind us! I'm the fast guy on the back so you'll most likely see me in the 4 man on Saturday! Always proudly a Belgrave Harrier.
