Rosenheim Match 2 Report

Rosenheim Match 2 - Croydon

Wednesday 27th May 2015

It was a difficult second round match for the Bels as a skeleton crew of athletes made it out to Croydon to compete in the local competition.

Men's Competition

James Kasire Sebalu ran a strong 100m to win and kick start the Belgrave defence.  AJ Bennetts showed form against strong compeititon in the high jump and long jump grabbing third in both. After a great run in the non scoring 100m Edwin Eshun fought bravely in the 200m to place third. JC Doukrou braved the 2000m steeplechase and Michael McBrin pushed through in 400m to both grab points for the team.Pete Mayfield as always made some excellent throws in the shot put and discus to grab second and first place, with Tom Ikeda and Chris Privett showing the depth of the Belgrave throwers with their own performances in the non-scoring comp.Despite a solid second place run in the relay the gaps in the middle distance events proved too much for the Belles as they slipped to fourth place. A notoriously tough fixture for drawing the crowds, the men's team now sit in joint second place overall with plenty of time to make up the one point margin. The next fixture will be at Wimbeldon so make sure you put it in the diary boys!!Full Results

Women's Competition

For the womens teams it was a case of 'if only' with many great performances coming from non-scoring events on the timetable.Claire Stokes ran a solid season opener in the 800m with Sally Underhill and Jess Case having great runs in the 1500m and 400m respectively. Leanne Bettis nabbed victory and maximum points in the discus with Julia Doukrou grabbing second place in the high jump. Maureen Noel braved the 3000m to to earn a much needed 4 points for the team and the girls relay team won convincingly to grab all 6 points from Hercules Wimbledon.Unfortunately it was not quite enough to take the win for the match but a respectable second place means we are only one match point behind Hercules Wimbledon overall.
