Reading Half Marathon - Belles retain their National title
Sunday 2 March. There was lots of Belgrave excitement at the Mizuno Reading Half Marathon. Phil Wicks led almost every step of the way but was out-run at the very end by Scott Overall (Blackheath & Bromley H) 1:04:44 and Nick Torry (Serpentine R) 1:04:50. Phil's time was 1:04:55.Leading the Belgrave women home was Tish Jones in a second place 1:12:56 behind Leeds City's Susan Partridge, 1:12:20. That's a personal record for Tish who now moves to within 36 seconds of Birhan Dagne's ten year-old club record. With Sam Amend 1:19:36 and Sophie Carter 1:22:22 closing in the team we still had Louise Blizzard 1:22:48 close by to provide back-up. It would seem certain that another set of AAA gold medals will be winging their way towards Belgrave ... well that's not strictly true as we haven't received the medals for last year yet! If our calculations are correct then it's special congratulations to Sophie for her first National medal. In other half marathon action, at Bath Mark Pollard was 9th in 1:08:56 with our old mate Simon Jones 11th in 1:09:33, and at Berkhampstead Zoe Doyle was 4th in 1:25:26.Men. 1 S Overall (Blackheath & Bromley H) 1:04:44; 3 P Wicks 1:04:55.
