Nick Goolab breaks course record in Chichester Priory 10k win
Belgrave’s Nick Goolab beat a strong field including national champions and Olympians to win the Chichester Priory 10k.
His time of 29:01 bettered the previous course record by some 31 seconds.
Nick was racing on the roads for the first time since the Spring/Summer of 2019, during which he won the English 5k and 10k championships.
But this was no walkover - Nick had to beat training partner Ben Bradley, the reigning English 5,000m champion. 2016 Olympian Andy Vernon finished 7th, and England international Owen Hind was third.
“Early on I just sat in, I wanted to see how the race panned out, I didn’t want to be in front too early,” Nick told the Chichester Observer.
“But Charlie Hulson made a little break, so I went with it and we were running together for a bit. And then after 5k, I kept the momentum going.
“Arriving onto the Goodwood circuit, it’s lovely flat, smooth tarmac but it was a bit lonely out there and I struggled to keep the pace going but just about held on and almost managed to break 29.”
Next up is the fast Herculis 5km in Monaco on February 16th, where Nick will look to improve on his club record of 13:34 set in Ipswich last year.
