Kate Axford and Jess Scheriff break club records at British Championships
Two club records fell within an hour on a rainy first evening of the 2024 UK Athletics Championships in Manchester.
US-based Jessica Scheriff knocked two seconds off her own club best to clock 10:04.36 for 7th in the 3000m steeplechase.
Minutes later in the 5000m Kate Axford ran to a briliant fourth place in 15:19.40 to improve on Catherine Berry’s 2004 club record by just 0.38s. It was a personal best for Kate by 1.47s.
Earlier in the day Sian Harry was within two tenths of a second of her PB in the 400m heats but missed out on qualification for the final.
And Georgia Bell was safely through to Sunday’s 1500m final with a win in her heat.
