Juniors Up Against the Best at English Schools
ESSA Championships - Gateshead
Friday 10 - Saturday 11 July 2015
Belgrave had six juniors representing two counties at the National English Schools' Championships held over two days at Gateshead. Having been successful at their county champs it was a real honour for these athletes to be selected to compete as such a prestigious event against the best young athletes across the country.
London
It was an excellent run for Kyle Reynolds-Warmington in the U15 100m as he came second in his heat to make the final. As the youngest athlete in the final Kyle battled it out with the big boys to run just outside of his PB to finish 8th in a hotly contested race.
Boy wonder Mathew De Rossi was up against an experienced field of athletes in the U15 high jump where he managed a leap of 1.72 to finish 18th overall. Whilst it was a PB performance for Nicole Borgers in the U15 shot put with a throw of 10.98 giving her 13th position.
Middlesex
It was a largely successful outcome for Luke Green who competed in the U15 shot put where he finished 5th overall with a throw of 12.79 which was just shy of his PB. After showing great form in the Middlesex County Schools Champs Harry Grindle had a bit of an off day running a 25.44 in the U15 200m but we know he will be back to the 23 zone in no time. Meanwhile AJ Bennetts managed a good run in the U17 100H to finish 4th in his heat and whilst narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round he still garnered a PB of 13.89.
Well done and many thanks...
A big congratulations to all of the athletes who competed - we are all very proud of you and can't wait to see what lies ahead for you all. Many thanks to all of the people who contributed donations to getting our athletes there - your support is most welcome and it's great to see the club spirit alive and kicking.
Also, last but definitely not least a massive THANK YOU to the coaches who turn out every week and have got these athletes to where they are - Andrea Lynch, Bob Bridges, Dave Lucas, Charlie Dickinson, Terry ONeil, Sian Goodlad - your support and guidance is very much appreciated.
