Ipswich Twilight 5k: Nick Goolab wins National 5k champs, goes 7th all-time

Nick Goolab won the Ipswich Twilight 5k for the second consecutive year to come within four seconds of the all-time British record over 5k on the road.

In doing so he added the England Athletics National 5k title to the English 10k title he won in Brighton last month.

His time of 13:34 puts him equal 7th on the all-time British 5k record list, within touching distance of the 13:30 national record shared by Mo Farah and Rob Denmark.

Nick's 16-second PB also means a new club record, previously held for 23 years by Paul Evans, who ran 13:48 in Portsmouth in April 1996.

"The course is flat, and there wasn't much wind at all. I'm happy with my time," a beaming Nick told the Eastern Daily Press.
