Fiona Maddocks elected Belgrave president for 2021/22
Fiona Maddocks has been elected president of Belgrave Harriers for the 2021/22 season.
The popular club figure was elected by members in an online vote, ahead of Belles teammate Sammi Amend, and was confirmed as president at the club AGM on 20th September.
Fiona joined the club from Leeds in 2013 and although an 800m specialist, has represented Belgrave on the road, track and cross country in distances from 400m through to the marathon.
She won 800m medals at the British Masters championships in 2019 and 2020.
School teacher Fi has been an active member of the committee for a number of years, serving as clothing secretary and team manager along the way.
Most recently she can be found coaching junior Belgravians on the track at Battersea on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
“It’s an enormous honour to be elected as president of this great club,” Fiona said. “I can’t wait to get started and I want to bring together all sections of the Belgrave membership.”
Outgoing president John Gladwin, who served two terms due to the coronavirus disruption during most of his first year, said: “It’s been my absolute honour and privilege to be president of our great club for the last couple of years.
“Although Covid hit, it has been wonderful to see some racing and I look forward to cheering on the Bels over the forthcoming year when hopefully racing will resume with gusto!
“May I congratulate the incoming president on her appointment. Fiona is totally deserving of the honour and her work with the young Belgrave members has been admirable. I look forward to seeing Fiona and the athletes at a cross-country meeting soon.
“May I take the opportunity to wish the teams all the very best for the forthcoming year. Go Bels!'“
