A big weekend on the track for Belgrave
County and Combined Championships
Saturday 14 - Sunday 15 May 2016
[ezcol_2third]It was a super weekend for our track athletes as they competed across a range of events at both county and national level with PBs, comebacks, county and club records some of the many highlights.
Competing at Bedford over the weekend in the English U18 Combined Event Championship AJ Bennetts put in some fine performances across the high jump, 400m, 110hurdles, 1500m and pole vault with many PBs to take the silver medal.
The Surrey County Championships saw another textbook performance from Kyle Reynolds-Warmington as he cruised through the rounds on the Saturday to win the U15 boy’s 100m title and break not only the 15 year old club record but the County record too with a stunning time of 11.13 into a -1 headwind. Kyle then proceeded to back himself again in the 200m as he remained undefeated to take the U15 boy’s title.
It was also a great day out for our multi-eventers with Ayse Hussein taking the silver medal in the U17 girl’s long jump whilst her coach Jodie Albrow made her return to competition with a win in the senior women’s 400m hurdles and the javelin. Traffic jams meant a rushed warm up for Electra Lanyon as she made it to the track just in time for the U17 girl’s 300m which ended up being a straight final. A brave run saw Electra just miss out on the medals as she pushed all the way to take 4th.
In the long distance events we had a great performance from Gus Upton in the senior men’s 5000m who battled it out to take home the bronze in a PB of 15:31.92. After a rather over-zealous opening lap of 63” in the seniors women’s 800m Rose O’Brien had a spectacular blow out to vow “to never to do that again”. Meanwhile training partner Jojo Rhodes managed to keep a cooler head and continue her good form with a solid run in the 1500m on the Sunday.
There was more success for our youth group middle distance runners over at the Middlesex County Championships with excellent performances from Nicole Toft finishing second in the U17 girl’s 800m and Naomi Toft winning the U13 girls 1500m with a brilliant PB and new club record of 4:54.15.
Overall a very successful weekend for all the Belgrave athletes who continue to strive for success at county and national level.
