Big PB for Iona in Wimbledon Half Marathon -Sunday 30th Oct 2016

Wine anyone to celebrate from my gauntlet?

Iona, one of our recent Belles signing gets a podium finish in 2nd place and a massive PB!

It was a cold, foggy morning and I was slightly regretting my rash decision to sign up to the Wimbledon half just two weeks before. After a struggle to locate the registration desk and start line through the fog there was a cold wait in store.

The race kicked off at 9.15 on Wimbledon common and I got myself into a strong group at the beginning, setting a decent pace which stood me in good stead for the race ahead. The course was two laps, heading down and up through Wimbledon village with the streets peaceful for the most part, with most (sensible) people making the most of the extra hour in bed! My pace dropped off when I was faced with the steep incline on the way back up to village and I ended up running some of the race on my own, with the group I started with ploughing ahead.

It was a tough course but I was spurred on by my quicker than anticipated pace. This paid off and I was second female and 24th overall - beating my PB by six minutes and approx. three minutes behind the winner. It was a fun, if challenging run, and I’m excited to get into better shape for the London marathon and maybe even enter some more spontaneous (as well as planned) half’s in the lead-up!
