Belles dominate podium at W40 British Indoor Pentathlon

It was a busy day and an early start for Jodie Albrow and Rose Grace at the British Masters Indoor Pentathlon, which took place at the EIS in Sheffield on the last weekend of January.

The event marked Jodie’s third time at this event in the W40s, with Rose making her first foray into masters multi-events.

The Belles were off to a strong start in the 60m Hurdles; Jodie took the win in 9.77s with Rose in second in 11.67s.

The high jump was next, and both jumped well. Jodie won the W40 event with a clearance of 1.39m, while Rose was not far behind with 1.33m.

In the overall standings Jodie extended her lead to almost 500 points and Rose manage to cling on to the silver spot. Still in one piece, they moved on to event 3, the Shot.

Here, Jodie continued to dominate the W40 competition with a season’s best of 9.06m, while Rose, who is less experienced in throws, still put in a still respectable 6.42m. Jodie’s lead extended further over the rest of the field, meanwhile Rose held a margin of 102 points to the bronze medal position.

They moved on to the long jump, with some now weary legs, but continued to compete well: 4.58m for Jodie & 3.93m for Rose.

Moving on to the last event of the day - the 800m - Jodie topped the overall standings while Rose was in silver, albeit now by a margin of only 70 points to bronze.

So finally, five hours after they started, came the 800m. Jodie & Rose both ran well (and pretty much together) to finish in 2:45 & 2:47 respectively. Having dominated the age group all day, the Belles took Gold & Silver; the 3rd W40 title in this event for Jodie, and an amazing silver for first-timer Rose.

Well done ladies!
