Belgrave stars Astin and Axford 5th and 7th at British champs
Sarah Astin and Kate Axford both did the club proud at the UK Athletics Championships in Manchester.
Sarah’s fifth place was her best ever placing at a national track champs, while Kate’s seventh was a seriously impressive debut.
The race was won by Olympian Jess Warner-Judd, who’d sat in with a cautious pack that went through 3k in 10:03 before accelerating away and crossing the line in 15:53.
Only two athletes went with Judd’s scorching pace, and Sarah and Kate held off some big names to finish high up in the chasing pack in 16:09 and 16:17 respectively.
Sarah would go on to smash her PB just three days later with a 15:36 in Liege, Belgium.
Also at the British champs the day before, new Belle Jessica Scheriff just missed out on a medal with a 10:11.21 clocking for 4th in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. US-based Scheriff had won gold at the Welsh champs a few weeks earlier.
