A Winning Start in the Rosenheim

Rosenheim Match 1 - Battersea Park

Wednesday 13th May 2015

It was a beautiful, sunny evening for the opening match of the Rosenheim League Competition for 2015 and as hosts Belgrave Harriers were determined to set the standard for the night.

Mens Competition

The Belgrave Men's team were out in force, putting on an emphatic display and seeing of stiff competition from the other clubs to claim a home victory on the night but a healthy margin of 13 points.

The sprinting honours for the evening belonged to Herne Hill's Nicholas Atwell who cleaned up in the 100m, 200m and 400m. Belgrave's Laurence Oboh battled it out with Atwell to claim second place in the 100m and 200m, with Adam Cameron running a solid race to finish third in the 400m. JC Doukrou also put in a brave performance over the 110m hurdles to finish in second place before coming third in the triple jump.

3000m Crew: (L-R) Gus Upton, Mel Wilkins, Will Cockerell, Nick Smallwood

The middle and long distance events were safe in the hands of Paskar Owor with two easy victories in the 800m and 1500m, and a strategically well-run race from Gus Upton in the 3000m saw another win and 6 points to Belgrave.

Once again Chris Privett showed dominance in the throws with an emphatetic win in the hammer and was accompanied by Tom Ikeda who also trounced his competitors with an easy win in the javelin.

There were also plenty of solid performances all around from our non-scroing athletes who were out in droves to get some season openers on the board. We hope to see many of you at the upcoming matches.

The Belgrave Ladies were put to task with strong competition coming from last years winners Hercules & Wimbeldon AC. The ladies put in great performances to claim victories across all scoring events bar the pole vault for which we had a gap. Electra Lanyon and Nicole Toft secured maximum points in the 200m and 800m respectively with Leanne Bettis continuing her comeback to claim a win in the javelin.

Our non-scoring ladies were also out in force with some great runs, throws and jumps coming from Sandra Dike, Emma Watkins, Monique Krefting, Hilde Bottin and Mel Wilkins. The womens team is certainly looking strong for our upcoming matches, so make sure the dates are in the diary ladies!
