Belgrave star Reece Edwards clocked the club’s fastest marathon in nearly a decade with a fantastic 2:14:44 at the Cheshire Elite Marathon.

The last time a clubmate ran quicker was fellow Aussie Marty Dent’s 2:12:23 at Fukuoka, Japan, in December 2011.

Since arriving from the southern hemisphere a year ago, big mileage around Battersea Park, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common in between busy shifts as an NHS physio (during a pandemic!) resulted in a 2-minute improvement on his previous best (2:16:43) set in Chicago in 2018.

The run was good enough for third place in the hastily-rearranged race which was won by pacemaker-turned-finisher Jake Smith in an Olympic standard 2:11:10.

Reece’s Battersea training partner Callan Moody was second in 2:11:38, an agonising eight seconds outside the qualifying time.
