Neva Jansen hurls herself into second in the UK discus U17 rankings

Fifteen year old Neva Jansen made an astonishing debut for Belgrave Harriers over two consecutive 'open' competitions - the Kingston Open and Hendon Throwsfest Open - during April 6-7, propelling Neva to second in the UK for Discus for the under 17 age group.

Neva joined Belgrave in March, having already trained with the club for around nine months. During the two competitions Neva improved her hammer with three personal bests, finishing at 27.58m. Her discus was more impressive, with another three PBs seeing Neva improve from her 2023 season’s best of 32.32m to 37.07m, smashing multiple qualifying standards on the way.

Neva has qualified at the English Schools national standard which this year was set at 37m, an incredible accomplishment given that this is her first year in the U17s group. This year Neva hopes to represent Belgrave in the National Athletics League, although she is only allowed to compete at Discus due to the age / weight limitations.

The English Schools championships are in July and Neva has a lot more work to be do, but she is always keen to improve. We’re excited to see what she’ll achieve in claret and gold this season.
